Computing Anywhere

Some of the internet browsers which provide cloud computing services.
Computing anywhere, anytime!
1. ZdNet
What is meant by a netbook?
A netbook is a small portable, laptop computer. It enables you to access the internet through wireless communication. It is mostly used web-browsing and emailing.
- A sub notebook computer which costs less than $400(US) and has an Intel Atom Microprocessor.[Zdnet]
What is the "cloud" in cloud computing?
Firstly cloud computing is where you "perform scientific calculations in hundreds or thousands of idle machines within an enterprise or it can also be worldwide.
The cloud in cloud computing is a metaphor for the internet. It is based on how the internet is portrayed in 'computer network diagrams'. It is also an 'abstraction' for the 'complex infrastructure' it disguises.

2. Google Tour 1
What applications does Google docs offer online?
Applications include:
-Documents
-Spreadsheets
-Presentations
Why would you want you documents stored in the “cloud” (online)?
This is so that if say for example you don't have access from your own computer/laptop, you are still able to access those documents you want since they are stored online ( Google docs are online).

3. Google Tour 5
What advantages do students and teachers find in Google docs?
Teachers:
- Helps teachers and their students to prepare weekly/monthly assignments and schedules( say for example the students forget what assignments and readings they have- they can create a schedule.)
-Creating spreadsheets help to share deadlines and assignment details( e.g. group i individual task, does it require write-ups or presentation etc....)
-Spreadsheet can be updated by anyone at anytime, anywhere.[Updates done in one place]
Student:
- Use it to post to blogs
-Write assignments
-Type notes for reading assignments
-If you are without your computer, you can still take notes on a computer, since Google docs is online!

Which netbook, if any would suit your needs? Explain.
I would pick the Sony Vaio P-series Lifestyle PC.
In terms of design and usability....
The main thing which caught my attention was the look of it. It's small and therefore portable and not heavy(it weighs 618kg). Its ideal because if sometimes I have to go out I am able to just pop it in my bag and use it whenever I want!.
Even though it has one of those circular mouse and a small keyboard, I think I will
be able to cope. As well as that it is said to display small icons and text but that shouldn't be a problem either, the screen is quite wide anyways and as long it can accommodate most Web pages, I'm happy with it.
In terms of connectivity....
It has two USB ports, that is really good, because I can save the work I have done by
just placing in my USB and even print using the other USB port. It also has Wi-fi, Blutooth and integrate 3G Modem and so I can just purchase a 3G Sim Card and can surf the Web anywhere, anytime! It also has a GPS which can be really useful at times, if I ever have to find a place.
In terms of performance and battery life....
It is available with 1.33 G Hz, 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU's and 2 GB RAM-1 GB which is said to be more than other notebooks. The battery life on the 1.33 G Hz model is 3 hours 8 minutes which is good enough!
It's a cute little netbook and if I ever needed one, I wouldn't mind buying it!
