We had 3 lessons of IST this week. The first lesson I got to use Front page for the very fist time. I started off by making pages and then saving them onto my USB! These are the final pages that I will be listing onto my Menu.
1.About Sanea
2.Family
3.My Dream Job
4.Celebrities
5.I LOVE IST
I Also have a homepage and an Index..which I will explain about below.
So this lesson I also learnt how to make a menu and also found out that you can have this login in page, where the user logs in to enter the site... It's sooo cool really. So I just got to learn how to do various things. I decided that lesson, that I really will need to buy Front page to use at home because, its due next week, and these 2 lesson is not going to be enough at least for me.
The next lesson I started to collect pictures, plan out each page and all, I have this really nice background picture for my log in page, which is of chocolates, this picture was actually going to be for my main homepage page but then on the weekend I changed it and made it my log in page. There was a problem trying to put my background picture, my teacher was away so I couldn't ask him, but luckily the other IST teacher was around and he helped me. The case was that the picture wasn't coming as like the whole background but then when you went to Page properties there was button where you could browse for that particular picture and set it as your background. What I was doing in the first place was just copying and pasting the picture but then as my teacher told me, I had to first save it in the "Web Site" file and then add it. So yeah in the end I got my background picture :)
The third lesson, I continued to plan and just get used to the whole front page format. I have put my layouts for each page. There is a lot of things to do, so I have the whole weekend to work on it.
On the weekend I bought Front Page. Yay! and started work right away. I have added my menu and the user name and password javascript. Its looking really cool and have added background pictures to my Index, homepage, Family, Music and My Job pages. So i have done little, little on each page. I have done half my pages, just need to do
-My Job
-IST Careers
-Celebrities
and I have to ask my teacher about the log in thing and my menu, like when you click on a category how to actually get it to the designated page and also how to add background music to a page and if I need a menu on each page.
In terms of my Music Page, I have added videos, its sooo awesome. I did some research on how to. What I did was went onto You tube, typed in whatever clip I wanted and then on the video clip page, I copied and pasted the embed code onto my Music page code page and I had to change the width and height to fit accordingly, so for all my videos its 250 by 250. Then I saved it and previewed it and it Worked . Yay!!!! So like I have these line of video clips going down my page, its really cool.
So far so good. So I dont know the exact due date, our teacher said it "negotiable", so hopefully he'll make it this Friday, enough time.
Can't wait to see the end result!!!!
Above are some images of my work so far:)

Sketch Site Structure

I have just drawn on a piece of paper all the different pages,I am going to have. Its just a rough, I am going to double check my teacher and see if I am heading in the right direction. It's not a storyboard but I am going to draw it up on Word Document OR I just came up with an idea, of scanning my drawing and putting it up, either one of them and then I'll put it on my blog!
These are the pages that I am going to have, its just a rough, when actually making my website I'll see if I am going to have all of them or cut some out.
- Homepage
- About Me
- Family
- My Dream Job
- IST Careers
- Celebrities
- Movies
So I'll be getting started soon :)

Assignment Time- Term 2 - Internet and Website Development

We have got a new assignment. It's to do with making a website, our own personal website, sounds really cool! I have read over the assignment thoroughly. I was away for two lessons of IST as I was sick and so before I even read the assignment, I found out from my class mates that its due in like 2 weeks, which is literally not this Monday but the Monday after that. I was like, that's too short but we may get a day or two extension, but anyways I better get started. I understand the assignment I just have to organize the way I am going to do it, like what is going to be on each page, backgrounds, images, sounds etc....(that's where my storyboard is going to come in- the organizing stage!). Its going to be a lot of work and quite a challenge and I better get started, 1 week to go!!!!

Computing Anywhere

Some of the internet browsers which provide cloud computing services.
Computing anywhere, anytime!
1. ZdNet
What is meant by a netbook?
A netbook is a small portable, laptop computer. It enables you to access the internet through wireless communication. It is mostly used web-browsing and emailing.
- A sub notebook computer which costs less than $400(US) and has an Intel Atom Microprocessor.[Zdnet]
What is the "cloud" in cloud computing?
Firstly cloud computing is where you "perform scientific calculations in hundreds or thousands of idle machines within an enterprise or it can also be worldwide.
The cloud in cloud computing is a metaphor for the internet. It is based on how the internet is portrayed in 'computer network diagrams'. It is also an 'abstraction' for the 'complex infrastructure' it disguises.

2. Google Tour 1
What applications does Google docs offer online?
Applications include:
-Documents
-Spreadsheets
-Presentations
Why would you want you documents stored in the “cloud” (online)?
This is so that if say for example you don't have access from your own computer/laptop, you are still able to access those documents you want since they are stored online ( Google docs are online).

3. Google Tour 5
What advantages do students and teachers find in Google docs?
Teachers:
- Helps teachers and their students to prepare weekly/monthly assignments and schedules( say for example the students forget what assignments and readings they have- they can create a schedule.)
-Creating spreadsheets help to share deadlines and assignment details( e.g. group i individual task, does it require write-ups or presentation etc....)
-Spreadsheet can be updated by anyone at anytime, anywhere.[Updates done in one place]
Student:
- Use it to post to blogs
-Write assignments
-Type notes for reading assignments
-If you are without your computer, you can still take notes on a computer, since Google docs is online!

4.cnet
Which netbook, if any would suit your needs? Explain.
I would pick the Sony Vaio P-series Lifestyle PC.
In terms of design and usability....
The main thing which caught my attention was the look of it. It's small and therefore portable and not heavy(it weighs 618kg). Its ideal because if sometimes I have to go out I am able to just pop it in my bag and use it whenever I want!.
Even though it has one of those circular mouse and a small keyboard, I think I will
be able to cope. As well as that it is said to display small icons and text but that shouldn't be a problem either, the screen is quite wide anyways and as long it can accommodate most Web pages, I'm happy with it.
In terms of connectivity....
It has two USB ports, that is really good, because I can save the work I have done by
just placing in my USB and even print using the other USB port. It also has Wi-fi, Blutooth and integrate 3G Modem and so I can just purchase a 3G Sim Card and can surf the Web anywhere, anytime! It also has a GPS which can be really useful at times, if I ever have to find a place.
In terms of performance and battery life....
It is available with 1.33 G Hz, 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU's and 2 GB RAM-1 GB which is said to be more than other notebooks. The battery life on the 1.33 G Hz model is 3 hours 8 minutes which is good enough!
It's a cute little netbook and if I ever needed one, I wouldn't mind buying it!

Bandwidth Mini Project

I was with Keerthana for this mini project.
In the beginning when choosing the topics, our original choice was going to be URL, but other people had already taken it. The second option was Hypermedia. I conducted research on hypermedia but couldn't find that much information on it and I didn't quite understand what it was. Finally the choosen topic was- Bandwidth. We were the only ones doing it!
There were four questions to be done and a worksheet to be made. Here is who did what
1. What is it?- Keerthana
2. What function does it perform in the context of th internet?- Sanea
3. Are there any variations or types- Sanea
4. Commonly used for....?- Keerthana
So Keerthana emailed me her answers to her choosen questions and then I made the powerpoint and put each of our questions on 1 or more slide each. Overall we had 11 slides. Some with extra information, like websites to go to to understand more about bandwidth, and some images of different bandwidth test and also the formula to calculate bandwidth. I found two videos on Youtube, they were both short, one was a video explaining bandwidth using an analogy and the other was this foreign ad( Chinese or Japenese)about Bandwidth.
The worksheet consisted of a Close passage and a findaword. I made the findaword on a website and then the next day we printed it out and handed it to the class, hopefully they completed it!
I uploaded it onto slide share( already had an account) and then put it on to my blog. It can be viewed below! (The worksheet can be viewed on the last slide, it may be small). Have fuN!
