Evernote

Evernote!

Evernote!

What you can use Evernote for!

Today, I had researched on Evernote. So here's what I understand about it so far.
Definition: Bascially Evernote is a web service as well as a software application that allows the user to actually collect notes and information. So in simplier terms its like your own online yellow sticky pad where you can write anything.
Accoring to evernote.com-
" Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere."
Some examples of what exactly can be your evernote include:
- A web clip
- A text clip
- To do clip
- Email clip
- Voice memo
- Swatches
- Excel
To be more specific, you can use enote for:
- take a photo of business cards with say your phone and thereby you now have an easy way to store your contacts.
- "capture" plane tickets, hotel invoices, confirmation numbers etc....
- can even keep a file of anything that you want to buy, it can be online or "out in the real world"
- for future reference of those important notes taken during the meeting, you can take a pciture of the whiteboard where all the notes are.
- you can plan your own trip, this can be done by clipping web pages, maps, itenaries, taking a photo of sights, sounds, tastes, absolutely anything!
- you can even research web sites and even clip pages from your browser.
- Keep your personal record of your favourite drinks, foods etc.. by taking a photo of the label, name etc....
- to remember to do things, create a to do list, this can include: actual jot downs, or even a voice memo.
- as for twitter, you can create notes from twitter and save those tweets you like by following " @myEN on twitter."
Evernote is available in a free version, but if users want some for features, the paid version is for them!
So that's a summary of what exactly Evernote is and what it can do! To view some of the examples listed above, there are pictures above.

Windows 7

Windows 7

1.What versions is Windows 7 available in?
Windows 7 is available in six versions, these including:
- Starter
- Home Premium
- Professional
- Ultimate
- OEM
- Enterprise
2.Describe some of the features of the new task bar.
There are a number of features that the new task bar has. In saying this, it not only includes a translucent style of Aero but also now has pinned programs, which make it user friendly by having large, easy-to-see icons. Furthermore if the user places their mouse over one of the icons then all the programs related to that program appears as a preview. If the mouse is then placed on one of the previews then a "X" is revealed to enable the reader to close the preview. If the user"hovers" the mouse over the preview, then it enlarges itself. Another way is also by clicking on the window to bring it to the front.
Jump lists are also another clever feature of the taskbar. They enable the user to get to the documents easier. If the user right clicks or left clicks then drags on any program icon which is located on the taskbar , then they are able to see a list of files they have recently used which is associated with that program.
Its not an entirely new feature, but the Show Desktop icon is now located in the taskbar. So if the user "hovers" over the show desktop box, it reveals the desktop, then when the mouse is taken away it automatically closes.
3. What are jump lists and how will they be useful?
As described before, jump lists are a new feature of the taskbar. They bascially are like menus to the users file. It is useful in enabling them to view their recently opened documents.
4. How can one quickly size two windows to fill the desktop side by side?
In order to this, the user is able to drag a window's title bar. So they drag a program window to the top of the monitor to expand it to full screen. Therefore if the user wants to work in two windows at the same time, then they simply drag one window to the left side, and one to the right, and they automatically resize themselves to the half the size of your monitor.
5. Research and describe the 9 multi touch gestures that Windows 7 uses (note: this site does not describe the gestures you will need to run a search).
The 9 multi-touch gestures include"
- Tap and Double Tap: Its quite basic, its what the user does when they click and double click.
- Panning with Inertia: This is basically for scrolling. This is when the user drags the page up and down with their fingers. So when the user tosses the page, there is a little bounce when the end of the page is reached.
- Selection/ Drag: So when the user touches and slides their finger on the screen, it moves icons around the desktop, moves the windows as well as selects text.
- Press and Tap with second finger: This is basically like using right click on the mouse, so the user presses on the target, and taps it using the second finger.
- Zoom: Its the same as when the user uses the CTRL key and scroll wheel on the mouse. The user pinches two fingers together or apart and can zoom in or out of the chosen document.
- Rotate: The user touches two spots on a digital photo, they twist, so it rotates just as in the case of a real photo. In order to "pivot" around another, the user simply uses two fingers in opposite directions or just one finger.
- Two finger tap: If the user taps with two fingers, then this zooms in on the center of the spot or brings it back to default zoom. In saying this it is handy for hyperlinks.
- Press and Hold: Its bascially the same as right click. The user holds their finger on a screen for a short time, then releases it after the "animation" in order to get a right click.
- Flicks: If the user flicks left or right, it navigates back and forward in a browser as well as other chosen applications.
6.What is XP mode. What users would find this feature most useful would it be useful?
It is a free ad on. It basically creates a "virtual XP environment" in which the user can run older programs.
Well, even though the user has successfully downloaded the XP installer, its not a easy to set up. In saying this the user will have to check that they have the right hardware, as well as have the right software.
7. What feature related to removable drives has Windows 7 removed in a bid to increase security?
Windows 7 does not anymore run "Autorun" external hard drives and USB keys when they are connected.
8.What are the minimum hardware requirements for windows 7.
This includes:
- Processor: 1GHz
- RAM: 1GB (32bits) , 2GB (64bits)
- A Direct X 9 Graphics with 128MB of memory.
- HD: 16GB (32bits) , 20GB ( 64bits)
9.What observations does the article offer regarding performance for Windows 7?
Observations include:
- Microsoft Office Performance ( in seconds)
- iTunes encoding (in seconds)
- Boot time ( in seconds)
- Shutdown time ( in seconds)
- Cinebench

Flowchart Symbols and Logic (Supposed to be before these posts)

Flowchart Basics
1. A Flowchart is a visual representation of the flow of data through " an information processing system, operations performed within the system and the sequence in which they are performed."
2.

Flowchart Symbols
3.With the decision making symbol (diamond) and the process symbol (rectangle), what are the rules for how many lines may enter and leave the symbol.
a) Only one line can enter the decision making symbol (diamond) and two or three lines, (one for each answer) should come out from the symbol.
b) Only one line can come out as well as come out from a "process symbol" (rectangle).
4.Study the sample flowcharts then create a flowchart for a coin toss where heads means Mary pays for the pizza and Tales means Bill pays.

Starting Visual Basic

On Friday, our teacher explained and went through with us step by step how to get started on Visual Basic.
It was luckily already installed.
So this is the process to make a new project:
1. File
2.New Project
3.Windows Forms Application
4.Name the Project
Then came:
- object
-property
-events
Explain in each detail:
OBJECT
So once the project opens, it displays a medium sized box and this is named Form 1.
When talking about Objects, it means everything in the toolbox.
Firstly I created two buttons.
* Button 1
* Buttone 2
Then I added a label
* Lable 1

PROPERTIES
When talking about properties, it means the properties of the buttons, the label and the form. So I am able to rename the button and the label as well as the Form. So now my buttons are named:
*Mr Button 1
*Mr Button 2
*Mr Label
As for the background of each object. For my buttons, I went to Forecolour, there were quite boring colours, but if you go to Custom there are much more "colorful" colors.
The for my label, I did the same thing as I did for my button. Another property I cahnged was the font, font style as well as font size.
As for my form, you could change the colour of the background or could insert a background color, I decided to insert a picture of the sunset.

EVENTS
When it came doing this, well the whole thing just, how could you say it? - Stuffed Up. Basically you had a code, for button 1, button 2 as well as Label 1. So when you clicked on say for example Button 1, Label 1 would disappear and if you pressed Button 2 it would reappear. Quite cool!
We also have to add a radio button, but I havent got to do that, so when I do I obviously will blog all about it.
Anyways, since mine didnt work, as when you clicked the "play" button, some error message would come out. I closed my whole project, saved it and then tried to make a new one. Then since I had so many projects saved, I went to the file Of Visual Basic and deleted these files. Then when I went back to open a new project,my solution explorer didnt open. Then the bell went so I would have to re-install Visual Basic on that. So yeah I learnt many things but unfortunately was unable to make mine work.

So today (Monday) I tried again and now I just have to add the code, and it should work, it will work.
Note: I must get a blank CD and put Visual Basic onto that so I am able to work on it at home.
So yeah that was my first go on Visual Basic.
